The webinar covered the Technical Note on the implementation of the UN Protocol on the Provision of Assistance to Victims of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, which aims to support humanitarian and development actors and the country inter-agency PSEA structures to strengthen a coordinated, system-wide approach to the provision of assistance and support, which prioritises the rights and dignity of victims/survivors, including:

  • An overview of the Protocol and technical note and their application to harmonise and strengthen provision of assistance at country level 

  • How to apply victim/survivor-centred approach to the provision of assistance and special considerations for child survivors 

  • Integrating victim assistance into country level PSEA SOPs and frameworks

The session featured presentations from civil society organisations on the practical application of the note and a victim/survivor-centered approach to quality support and assistance. It also spotlighted the World Vision International Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Championship priorities for 2022, with specific focus on the victim-centred approach. A brief Q&A discussion followed the presentations.

Ivana pictureIvana Chapčáková is Child Protection Specialist at UNICEF in New York supporting agency's work on scaling up Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). In this role, she is responsible for the global roll out of the Technical Note to implement the UN Victims Assistance Protocol, which UNICEF is leading on behalf of the UN system. Ivana has over 14 years of international experience combining work in complex humanitarian and development contexts developing and implementing programming, research, training, and technical and programmatic guidance related to PSEA and gender-based violence (GBV). Prior to her humanitarian career, she worked on sexual and interpersonal violence prevention and response and LGBTQ programming with non-profits in the United States.

Anne-Mare pictureAnne-Marie Connor serves as Special Advisor to the WVI President, for the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Championship, which Andrew Morley assumed January 1, 2022. Anne-Marie most recently served as National Director for World Vision in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Throughout her 15+ year humanitarian career she has held roles in leadership, emergency & coordination, strategy development and execution in highly complex and conflicted affected countries. She champions protection and safeguarding in world's toughest places.

Manuel photoManuel dos Santos has a Diploma in Community Recovery from Southern Cross University, Australia, and a bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the University of Peace (Universidade da Paz), Timor-Leste. Manuel is the director of PRADET (Psychosocial Recovery and Development in East Timor), a Non-Profit NGO providing Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services, empowerment, and shelters for survivors of violence, Gender-based Violence, including SEA. Manuel has been leading this NGO for over ten years, providing strategic direction, planning and organization of PRDAET mandate as a service provider of three programme (MHPSS for the survivors of violence, GBV, SEA including trafficking, Empowerment programme for the survivor and temporary shelter). Prior to this post, he served as the Human Resources Officer for PRADET for eight years.

Oge pictureOge Chukwudozie is Safeguarding and protection professional. Oge has over 15 years’ experience in the aid sector. She has worked with different organisations, including Africare, Christian Aid and Save the Children. Oge has worked in various thematic areas such as education, HIV/AIDS, livelihoods, nutrition and emergency response. She is currently the National Associate for the RSH Nigeria Hub.

 

Noelia pictureNoelia Ruiz is Digna's a Acting Program Manager. Digna is the Canadian Centre of Expertise on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. Noelia has a passion for gender equality and the betterment of people’s lives. She possesses international experience in Latin America, North America and Asia. Noelia holds a master’s degree in International Affairs with a specialization in International Development Policy from Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. She previously worked as a gender advisor for Cuso International in Myanmar, and as a research fellow for the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, DC.
