This webinar aims to provide an overview of safeguarding, including of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment. It sest out to introduce civil society organisations to the safeguarding journey by providing an introduction and general overview of safeguarding, how to assess and plan for safeguarding, what is needed and what to do if problems arise.

Caroline Kibos is a lawyer with a passion for human rights, peace building, governance, transitional justice and security sector reforms. She supported local level peace initiatives in South Sudan and refugee camps in Uganda and Ethiopia. She also actively supported civil society during the High Level Revitalization Forum (HLRF) in Addis and continues to participate in different policy fora that play great roles on shaping public policies.

She is a co-coordinator of the South Sudan Civil Society Forum, a member to both the Women Coalition & Youth Coalition and the representative of the youth to the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC). Ms Kibos strongly supports women and youth participation and inclusion in all other processes. She is committed to women empowerment and emancipation from all barriers including cultural and societal barriers that hinder full participation of women in public life. 

Caroline currently works as the national associate for the South Sudan Resource and Support Hub.

  • Sosena Lemma, Advisor to the Ethiopia Resource and Support Hub

SosenaSosena Lemma has nearly 20 years of experience of working in the development sector in Ethiopia. Over these times she has built her experience and expertise as a leader in capacity development design and delivery for civil society organizations across a range of disciplines including project management, gender, safeguarding, leadership and governance. Under the multi-donor Civil Society Support Programme (CSSP 2011-2017) she led the biggest capacity development programme that has ever been provided to Ethiopian civil society, working with about 500 CSOs and managing a team of 3 experts, 9 Finance Mentors and 4 national and international specialist providers. She is a confident and skilled facilitator, able to design and deliver high quality training across a spectrum of topics and provide customized technical advice to a wide range of organizations, from small-scale community-based organizations to large and complex non-governmental organizations. As part of her gender background Sosena is an accredited trainer and technical advisor on a community mobilization approach to prevent VAW called SASA!.

She has practical experiences on the adaptation and implementation of the approach in Ethiopia and other countries. Currently she is working as a safeguarding technical lead in CSSP2 and as regional associate for Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub (RSH).
