These guidelines set out what organisations need to do in order to practice safe recruitment. It covers the safeguarding procedures in the following areas of the recruitment process: 
•    Job description
•    Advertising 
•    Shortlisting and scrutinising applications/CVs
•    Interviewing 
•    Checking the successful applicant’s identity, their employment history and qualifications
•    Reference checking 
•    External checks including criminal record checks if appropriate 
•    Inductions for new starters
